They want to learn, never criticize, serve teacher, and have faith in teacher and his teaching. Gurus live their lives as models of Hindu philosophy. Compassion caused gurus to descend from enlightened state to illusory world to help others know true reality. Buddhism rejected the idea of gurus, in favor of personal reasoning.
