Detail: He lived 1745 to 1829 and was first USA Supreme Court Chief Justice. He signed Jay's Treaty [1791] between USA and Britain over freedom of navigation, trade restrictions in West Indies, and evacuation of British Northwest forts, but it did not stop naval impressment. He resigned to run for Governor of New York [1791].
