Lesniewski S

When1:  1916

Who:    Stanislaw Lesniewski [Lesniewski, Stanislaw]

What:   logician

Where:  Poland/Russia

works\  General Theory of Sets [1916]

Detail: He lived 1886 to 1939 and invented definition theory. He helped develop quantum logic, based on equivalence {protothetic logic, Lesniewski}, abstract quantifiers {ontology logic, Lesniewski}, and part and whole relations {mereology, Lesniewski}. Logic is not about real world, only about statements. Wholes are not just sets or sums of parts, because parts relate. Because living things can replace parts, modal or temporal logic can maintain integrated wholes by maintaining relations among replaced parts.
