Detail: He lived 1811 to 1872 and founded new York Tribune, which advocated high tariffs, social reforms, peace, and amnesty for the South. He later helped form the Liberal Republican Party, against Grant, for civil service reform and just reconstruction. Greeley said, "Go west, young man".
