Detail: Gothic cathedrals in France were for the Virgin Mary, envisioned as young girl, rather than matron as before. Gothic cathedrals had ribbed groin vaults, Gothic pointed arches, flying buttresses, slender inner columns, triforia, choir, and niches around apse. Column clusters flowed smoothly into pointed arch and across vault. Large colored-glass-piece windows {stained glass window} often had rose shape {rose window}.
